The Mapumba trio play globe-trotting rumba rhythms smeared with central-African ethnic and folk flourishes, pop panache, reggae rushes, R&B soul and multi-lingual vocal tunings. Born Dieu-Merci Laurent Mapumba Cilombo, Mapumba comes from the DRC. After a stint studying in Zambia, he based himself in South Africa where he has made a name for himself for his acoustic steal guitar skills and inventive lyrics that freely mix French, English Swahili and Chiluba.
