I came across the movie Congo My Foot at Kolade’s house. He and Emma were hosting a night of great food, live music and film. The live music was courtesy of Warongx who played at PASS last week Sunday and the food of course was Emma’s magic, the great convo came as a result of enjoying this film.
When I apprached OJ, Okepne Ojang, the filmmaker he let me know the band was still in Cape Town. Tino La Musica now has to book and hire instruments where before they had a full kit they had bought from earnings as car guards, security guards and club bouncers. Tonight we pass a hat around to assist them with paying some of the instrument hire costs.
I can’t wait for Angela to give us a copy of the video she is recording. On stage we have three vocalists, two drummers, two guitarists (1 Bassist-oops) and a keyboardist. There is dance and the fanfare of a Congolese musical experience.

Real fun with Tino la Musica here at the PASS studio

OJ and Mohamed are taking questions from the audience… what do you want to ask of the director of the film and the band members and manager?
The lead member of the band is not present, he is sick and has been since late last month when he was hospitalised. This was during the strike (civil workers general strike) and as a result was unable to access the medical assistance he required. He was sent home with just a few pain killers.
The band has regrouped but is unable to live as they used to.
‘There is no love among Africans’ a quote from Mohamed in the film, the question from an audience member is if he feels this is true?
