Stories About Music in Africa

Stories about Music in Africa is an ongoing series that presents concert-lectures and audio/visual stories about music outfits from global Africa dedicated to exploring new musical territory. The series is recorded at the Chimurenga headquarters in Cape Town as well as satellite locations across the African world.

The latest episode:  SOCIAL BREATH – Asher Gamedze and THE BLACK LUNGS

In commemoration of the fighting spirit of 16 June ’76, PASS presents a live recording of a once-off performance of SOCIAL BREATH by ASHER GAMEDZE and the BLACK LUNGS, a collective featuring some of Cape Town’s finest improvisers in creative black music, including: Sean Sanby (bass), Nobuhle Ashanti (keys), Jed Petersen (tenor sax), Tumi Pheko (trumpet), Athi Ngcaba (trombone), Garth Erasmus (alto sax), Tina Mene (vocals), Ru Slayen (percussion) and Asher Gamedze (drums)
