
Act II, L’Almamy Samori Touré – An Unmade Film by Ousmane Sembène, decomposed, disarranged and reproduced by Chimurenga, and hosted by RAW Material Company as part of the 14th edition of Partcours. The program today will run as follows
Thursday December 11:
5 p.m. | On his journey alongside Sembène, the preservation of his work and memory – Clarence Delgado who worked with Sembène at his production company, Filmi Doomireew, for 25 years on many projects including Camp de Thiaroye and Moolaadé, sits in conversation with Aboubacar Demba Cissokho.
6 p.m. | Exploring the afterlives of Sembène’s works through Daaray Sembène – la Maison de la pédagogie de l’image at University of Thies, Senegal, founded by director and playwright, Hadja Maimouna Niang who will speak to Magueye Kasse and, filmmaker Fatou Kandé Senghor on the Ousmane Sembène Associationand its traveling evening school.
7.30 p.m. | Sembène envisioned the unmade film Samori to happen across several borders and in a much higher number of sets. Tasked with building these landscapes, we are joined by Moustapha Ndiaye aka ‘Picasso’, renowned photographer and designer. Ndiaye, having produced sets for films such as Tableau Ferraille (1997) and Le Prix du pardon (2001), collaborated with Ousmane Sembène on Samori.
